Brief
The owners wanted guests to linger over three-hour dinners without feeling they were in a stiff fine-dining room. The room was tall, white and far too echoey.
Approach
Round tables replaced long ones: conversation got closer, and draped linen cloths soften the echo. Cirebon rattan chairs were made lower and wider than standard so people want to stay.
The ceiling lights came out. All the light comes from wall lamps at eye level and candles on the tables, so it is the guests' faces that glow, not the ceiling.
